<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape device with a tape run-out detecting function capable of detecting the magnetic tape run-out of a cartridge. SOLUTION: This magnetic tape device comprises a reel hub 4 around which the magnetic tape 3 is wound, a cartridge side gear 5 which rotates the reel hub 4, a clutch gear 6 which is engaged therewith, a file reel motor 7 which rotates the clutch gear 6 and an encoder 8 which detects the rotation information thereof. When the cartridge 1 is fed into the device, the cartridge side gear 5 in the cartridge 1 and the clutch gear 6 mounted at the front end of the file reel motor 7 are coupled and the file reel motor 7 is rotated for the specified time in a tape take-up direction. The tacho pulses A, B generated from the encoder 8 are monitored and whether the generation of the specified or more tacho pulses are generated or not is checked, by which the magnetic tape run-out of the cartridge 1 is judged.</p> |
