摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the gradation resolution of a luminance by covering input video data into output display data having a gradation step smaller than the gradation step of the input video data or to convert the input video data into the output display data with an arbitrary conversion characteristic. SOLUTION: In a plasma display device displaying the luminance in a frame by the combination of plural subframes SFs having the luminance corresponding to plural weight values, a fine luminance subframe SF0 having the luminance smaller than the minimum gradation of the luminance expressible with the number of bits of the input video data which are to be supplied is added to subframes of the frame. Then, the gradation resolution of the luminance can be increased without changing the number of gradation of conventional input video data Vin by lighting subframes of the desired combination from such plural subframes SF0 to SF8 in this device.
