PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed controller capable of controlling the moving speed of a member to be controlled (zoom lens) instantaneously up to the maximum speed by changing a characteristic curve for determining the relation between the manipulated variable of an operation member and the moving speed of the member corresponding to the manipulated variable to a characteristic curve for maximizing the moving speed of the member before maximizing the manipulated variable of the operation member as to the control of the moving speed of the member based on the manipulated variable of the operation member. SOLUTION: A control part 44 acquires the manipulated variable of a sum ring from a potentiometer 40 and outputs a speed command signal for commanding for the moving speed of the zoom lens 54 corresponding to the manipulated variable to a motor control circuit 48 to drive a motor 50. When a change in the characteristic curve is instructed by a characteristic curve specification means 56, the control part 44 changes the characteristic curve for deriving output voltage to be outputted correspondingly to input voltage.
