PURPOSE: A method for obtaining a high-speed multi-path and a receiving apparatus for the method are provided to obtain a high-speed multi-path of base station by applying a cell searching procedures defined in a W-CDMA that is a next generation mobile communication system. CONSTITUTION: First, signals received by a receiving apparatus are divided into I and Q channel signals and a carrier is removed from the I and the Q signals. Then, each of I and Q signals is passed through pulse forming filters(10,20) and matching filters(30,40). In the matching filters, a specific window size is determined with center in the main-path and a correlation per a chip delay of the received signals within the window is obtained by using an orthogonal gold code and sent to a squaring part(50,60). Subsequently, a resulting values of the correlation squared in the squaring part(50,60) are summed and stored in a slot summing block(70) on a slot basis. Finally, each of the resulting values stored is compared with a predetermined critical value in the first decision block(80). According to the result of comparing, the chip delay having the resulting value exceeding the critical point is determined as a slot starting time point for each multi-path signal.
