PURPOSE: A device for automatically converting a mode of a portable communication apparatus is provided to automatically convert the mode with only a sensing operation of a capacitance type touch sensor, and to automatically convert a general mode into a manner mode when a cellular phone is contacted with a human body, in a state of the cellular phone setting up an automatic mode converting function. CONSTITUTION: A capacitance type touch sensor(100) decides whether a cellular phone is contacted with a human body, in a state of an automatic mode converting function being set up. If so, the capacitance type touch sensor(100) accumulates human capacitances. A converting circuit(110) converts the accumulated capacitances into voltages. A CPU(120) compares the converted voltages with a reference voltage. The CPU(120) decides whether the converted voltages are bigger than the reference voltage. If so, the CPU(120) converts a mode state of the cellular phone. If the cellular phone is not contacted with the human body even though the automatic mode converting function is set up, the CPU(120) maintains the mode state of the cellular phone. The cellular phone performs a function corresponding to the set state.
