PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for controlling the landing speed of the armature in an electromechanical actuator, such as an actuator or the like for a fuel injector, a fuel pressure regulator, or an engine valve. SOLUTION: The position and the speed of the armature in stroke are inferred dynamically, by computing the inductance of an actuator coil at the time of the armature shifting in its stroke and the rate of change of the inductance, and the nonlinear permeability and the magnetization effect caused by the change of a gap, the temperature, the property of a magnetic material, and the magnetic structure, etc., are compensated, and the computed inductance value is regularized at the last (zero gap) of the stroke, and the value of the regularized inductance is mapped to correspond to the position of an armature by algebraic transformation. The inductance can be used as a positional parameter, without being mapped directly, that is, in units of position. The rate of change of the inductance can be used as a parameter for the rate of change, without being mapped in units of speed. |
