PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a calendar treatment device which lowers the production line shutdown frequencies for cleaning and exchanging of metallic rolls of the calendar treatment device and improves productivity by delaying the progression of microcracks of hard chrome plating generated on the peripheral surfaces of the metallic rolls and a method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium by using the device. SOLUTION: The calendar treatment device which executes the mirror finishing of the magnetic layer of the magnetic recording medium by inserting the magnetic recording medium 3 between a plurality of the metallic rolls 1a to 1d and elastic rolls 2a to 2c or the metallic rolls and the metallic rolls is characterized in that a double layer plating structure is adopted for the hard chrome plating to be applied on the surfaces of the metallic rolls 1a to 1d and the plating thicknesses of the respective layers are specified to a range of 30 to 100μm.
