PURPOSE: A humidification apparatus for air conditioner and method for controlling operation of humidification apparatus is provided to achieve an improved humidification efficiency by installing a humidification heater to a water tank. CONSTITUTION: A humidification apparatus comprises a water tank(20) installed beneath a blower unit and which has an open top portion so as to store water for humidification operation and allow the water to be evaporated; a humidification heater(22) mounted within the water tank and which heats the evaporates the water stored in the water tank when a power is supplied; and a control unit for controlling the humidification heater. The water tank is connected to a water feed port(24) for feeding water to the water tank. The control unit includes a temperature sensor for sensing the temperature of the indoor area, a humidification sensor for sensing the humidity of the indoor area, and an electronic control unit for controlling a blower motor, the humidification heater and a burner in accordance with the electric signal input from a power switch and sensors.
