PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a DC motor drive device that is capable of increasing electric power regenerated in a DC power source and effectively using the electric power of the DC power source. SOLUTION: This DC motor drive device, having a DC power source and a DC motor provided with field and armature windings comprises a field chopper that is connected to the DC power source and the field winding to control a field current, an armature chopper that is connected to the DC power source and the armature winding to control an armature current, and a control device that controls the field chopper by the field current command value and the armature chopper by the armature current command value in accordance with the field current and armature current command values that make the duty ratio of the armature chopper almost zero, when a given torque is outputted in the regenerative operation of the DC motor. This device can increase the electric power regenerated in the DC power source, thereby enabling it to be used efficiently.
