PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform refresh operation without being watched from the outside in a semiconductor integrated circuit having a memory cell consisting of capacitors and its control method. SOLUTION: This circuit is provided with at least one pair of memory core which has plural memory cells consisting of capacitors and in which the same data is written, a refresh generating circuit, a refresh control circuit, and read- out control circuit. The refresh generating circuit generates automatically a refresh signal for holding data of a memory cell. The refresh control circuit supplies a refresh signal to at least one memory core, and operates a memory core for the prescribed period as a refresh core. The read-out control circuit supplies a read-out signal for reading out data from a memory cell MC to at least one memory core to which a refresh signal is not supplied, and operates a memory core as a read-out core.
