PURPOSE: A character input unit is provided to allow user to input a character and quickly and conveniently use a mobile phone by disposing a character board and selection factors for selecting a character at the upper and lower sides, right and left sides and diagonally and moving a central shaft to each direction. CONSTITUTION: In order to input a character, a central shaft(2) is moved to the side and a character key(3) at the side of a lower portion of the central shaft(2) is depressed to input a character. The character keys(3) are installed at the upper and the lower sides, right and left sides and diagonally. And the character keys(3) are installed by two stories. Thus, in a state that the central shaft(2) is depressed, when the central shaft(2) is moved to the side, the size face at the lower portion of the central shaft(2) presses down the character key existing at the lower portion so that the character is inputted. 16 characters can be inputtable by a single character input unit, and with two character input units, the number, the Korean language, a direction key can be inputted by utilizing a shift key. By adding a shift key to the character keys(3) of the character input units at both sides, more characters can be expressed.
