PURPOSE: A method for performing an abbreviated dialing of a mobile communication terminal is provided to immediately attempt a call connection at the moment when a short cut is pressed, or to make a user confirm abbreviated dialing contents before the call connection. Therefore, the user does not have to receive an unintended call connection and easily confirms the abbreviated dialing contents. CONSTITUTION: A mobile communication terminal decides whether an optional number key is pressed in a reception standby mode(S10). If so, the terminal generates a DTMF(Dual Tone Multi Frequency) tone and simultaneously displays a corresponding number on a screen, then counts time(t) when the number key is pressed(S14). The terminal decides whether the time(t) exceeds a preset time(i)(S16). If so, the terminal generates an abbreviated dialing display tone, and displays a telephone number and a name stored by corresponding to the number key on the screen(S20). The terminal counts time when the number key is pressed, from the moment when the telephone number and the name are displayed on the screen, and adds the counted time to the time(i) for deciding an abbreviated dial start, then calculates the time(t)(S22). If the calculated time(t) exceeds a preset time(i+k), the terminal attempts a call connection with the telephone number(S26). If a call is connected, the terminal supplies a call connection screen notifying the call connection(S28).
