PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate production of a test piece so as to provide a friction testing machine and a method thereof for carrying out measurement with good reproducibility by using the test piece requiring no V-shaped notching process. SOLUTION: In this friction testing machine bringing test pieces 50 fixed in a pair of test piece fixing means 22, 22' into pressure contact with a rotational pin 15 for measuring torque during pin rotation and/or a change of a distance between a pair of test pieces, each of the pair of test piece fixing means 22, 22' is provided with a fixing means for fixing the two equilateral prism type test pieces 50 so that their one-side faces 50a, 50a are set at right angles with each other. In this friction testing device, two of four regular prism type test pieces are paired, and held in the test piece fixing means respectively so as to be tested. In the four test pieces, the side face touching the pin is sequentially changed, so that the same test piece can be used repeatedly when measurement is repeatedly carried out on the four side faces.
