The invention relates to a routine and preventive display of transmission costs in Internet and online services, wherein software components are provided on the terminal side in the form of a charges determining software, said software being preferably integrated into the browser or communicating with the latter. The above-mentioned software communicates with a charges structure file with the purpose of determining charges and additionally includes fundamental data such as length and data rate, said file being initially managed manually by the user or downloaded and containing the charges structure of essential telecommunication and Internet services providers. Current costs thus determined are generally displayed on the screen, preferably in a field provided for said purpose in the terminal. A charges forecasting software is provided to forecast imminent transmission costs. Said software calculates predicted costs by detecting, preferably in an automatic manner, the length of files shown on the display for imminent transmission.
