PURPOSE: A nutrient composition for laying hens and chickens containing water-soluble chitosan and the use thereof are provided to substitute for the conventional expensive nutrient composition, and to improve its antimicrobial activity. CONSTITUTION: The nutrient composition for laying hens and chickens contains 0.1 to 20 wt.% of chitosan having 270,000 to 300,000 molecular weight; 0.1 to 17 wt.% of vitamins comprising at least one vitamin selected from the group consisting of mineral-vitamin mixture, vitamin B, and vitamin C; 0.1 to 15 wt.% of citric acid; and 0.3 to 3 wt.% of calcium, in which the citric acid is added to improve the anti-oxidant activity of composition and to stabilize vitamin C. The nutrient composition containing water-soluble chitosan is added to feed for laying hens and chickens in an amount of 0.1 to 2g/day per a laying hen or chicken.
