ELECTRON IMAGE DETECTOR COUPLED BY OPTICAL FIBERS WITH ABSORBING OUTER CLADDING TO REDUCE BLURRING

Electron image detector (10) using a scintillator (12) optically coupled to a CCD-detector (20) by a fiber optical array (14). To avoid blurring caused by transfer of photons between fibers while not reducing the sensitivity, fibers with high extra mural absorption are used; each individual fiber having an absorbing outer cladding. To further reduce blurring, transfer optics (14) can be bounded to the scintillator (12) without any glues or adhesives.
