PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical diffraction element which selects the wavelength of light or changes the propagation direction by using resonant Bragg reflection. SOLUTION: The optical diffraction device has features that it has a three- dimensional periodical structure produced by depositing minute spheres and that it uses resonant Bragg reflection caused when conditions for Mie resonance by each sphere of the aforementioned minute spheres and Bragg conditions by the periodical structure of the three-dimensional periodical structure are satisfied in terms of the specified wavelength of the incident light.
