PURPOSE:To improve the operability during jam cancel operation by a method wherein status information on a jam of a recording medium that is generated at a printer engine when the jam occurs can be cancelled by information that is sent from an image controller to the printer engine. CONSTITUTION:According to information of a printer shown on a display device such as CRT a user uses, the user of the printer knows that, for example, the printer gets into a jam or which parts of the printer the user has to manipulate, and operates the designated parts of the printer according to the information to handle the jam. When jam handling is carried out with a main door opened, a door on-off switch 62 makes the printer engine 101 judge whether or not jam handling is carried out. When a jam due to a failure of paper delivery is handled with a paper delivery cover opened, the status information can be cancelled by a status cancellation command from a printer controller 100. |
