The storage system has storage boxes (2) which can be fitted with an adapter (3), by which the storage box can be divided both at bottom level and horizontally. The adapter has a vertical carrier (4) clear of the bottom so that it is easy to empty. The bottom and the vertical carrier can be connected by insertion or hook elements.
