The cans are arranged in sets (G) with the same orientation with their axes parallel. A heat-shrink film web (1) is advanced to the feedline at the same speed as the can sets, deformed around the sets, joined (SL) at the longitudinal edges (1A) and cut transversely between sets. Wrapped sets pass through a heating tunnel (12) to shrink the film into a tight cling fit. Two parallel feedlines (A,B) can be used in which the advancing film is cut (5) to form two webs. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a pack of cans or partly cylindrical containers arranged side by side and wrapped in a heat-shrink film with joined longitudinal edges; (b) a machine for packing cans or partly cylindrical containers using synthetic heat-shrink film.
