The method involves measuring the position of a leading vehicle and displaying to a following vehicle (4) a deviation from a desired distance to the leading vehicle by actuating a flashlight to produce a shadow projection (9) of the following vehicle on a display surface (6) visible to the following vehicle with a marking (8) showing the desired position of the shadow. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for implementing the method.
