The invention relates to a device assembly for cells or tissues of organisms that are to be cytologically, histologically or immunologically examined. The device assembly is particularly suited for carrying out the immunohistochemical detection of proteins and of mRNA. The aim of the invention is to develop a device assembly without the use of complicated mechanics which makes it possible to treat a large number of freely floating tissue samples with different reagents while ensuring a homogeneous treatment. To this end, the invention provides that at least two containers (1) for holding tissue samples (2) are open to one another, can be connected in a liquid-tight manner with regard to the surroundings, and that the tissue samples (2) are held at a distance from one another in the container by spacing means (3) and can be freely flown around. The containers (1) comprise a connection for supplying and removing reagents and are connected to supply containers (6) for the reagents via pumps (4) and valves (5) so that the reagents can be circulated or they can be conveyed in any order with simple flow-through.
