The inventive method for operating a circuit-breaker (LS) is used for adapting the maximum threshold value (Ikmax) for immediate tripping for the voltage that is present in the supply network. To this end, the voltage (Um) is measured periodically and compared to the rated voltage (Ur) of the circuit-breaker. If the measured voltage (Um) falls below the rated voltage (Ur), the maximum threshold value (Ikmax) for immediate tripping is raised since the switching capacity of circuit-breakers increases as voltage decreases. Very low voltages are treated as indicating a fault in the supply network and result in the introduction of a low threshold value.
