The invention relates to a sewage filter for treating especially the wastewaters of rural houses. Sewage to be treated arrives in the container of the filter via an inlet, flows in the container through a filter unit, and leaves the container via an outlet, entering in a soakage tube. In the container, solid impurities in the sewage are caught by the filter element in the filter unit. In the filter according to the invention, the filter unit can be lifted out of the container so that the filter element can be easily replaced after it has lost its filtering capacity. The material of the filter element is advantageously mineral wool.
