The hand tool, comprising a body (1) and a head for a continuously-rotating instrument driven by shafts (7, 12), and has a torque limiter in the form of a spring-loaded sliding gear (11) on the primary shaft (12) and a fixed gear (10) on the secondary shaft. In the event of the set torque being exceeded the sliding gear moves along the primary shaft against the pressure of its spring (20) and disengages the transmission. The two gears can have asymmetrical teeth to give different torque levels according to the direction of rotation.
