METHOD OF DETECTING VEHICLE USING WAVELET TRANSFORM

PURPOSE: A method of detecting vehicles using Wavelet transforms is provided to increase an accurate degree of detecting vehicles by filtering and Wavelet-transforming an image signal for removing a noise from the image signal outputted from an image detector CONSTITUTION: The method includes the first step of setting detecting areas by dividing image information by the predetermined distance. In the second step, an image signal detected at one of the detecting areas is converted into a frequency-converted signal by Wavelet-transforming the image signal. In the third step, a Wavelet coefficient is calculated by Wavelet-filtering the frequency-converted signal using a high frequency filter. In the fourth step, the Wavelet coefficient is converted into a brightness value between 0 through 255 by using a reverse high frequency Wavelet filter. In the fifth step, a number of pixels corresponding to the brightness value is compared with a predetermined threshold value. And, in the sixth step, it is determined based on the comparison result of the fifth step, and judging whether there is a vehicle in the detecting area.
