PURPOSE: A method for tracing a hard handoff operation in a mobile switching system is provided to trace an operation generated in progress of a hard handoff among mobile switching systems. Therefore, an operator is capable of collecting map operation data on the handoff operation and a trunk status management operation, and tracing a handoff operation of a system operating in a field. CONSTITUTION: An operator collects information on a hard handoff and registers the collected information according to a handoff operation tracing register command(110). The registered information is transmitted to an MAP block processing a handoff operation, and is stored in an inner local table(110). A call processing block receives handoff information from a base station, and composes a handoff operation, then transmits the composed handoff operation to the MAP block(112). When an input of an operator for the tracing is activated, the MAP block compares the information received from the base station with the information stored in the local table(112). According to the compared result, operation data with the same tracing conditions are transmitted to a predetermined MMC(Man Machine Communication) port(116, 118).
