PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for duplexing a STIA board in a mobile telecommunications system is provided to provide a continuous and stable data service by duplexing the STIA board controlling a data call in an IIU block to cope with error that may be produced. CONSTITUTION: A mobile telecommunications system has a LCIN(Local CDMA Interconnection Network)(10), a TSB(Transcoding Selector Bank)(20), an IIU(IWF Interface Unit)(30) and an IWF part(40). The IIU(30) includes a STIA section(31) and a FPIA(FR/PRI Interface Assembly) section(32). The STIA section(31) controls fundamental call processes and switches the TSB(20) to a corresponding vocoder. The STIA section(31) is composed of STIA_0 and STIA_1 which control a states of the IIU(30) by interworking with a upper block(CCP). The FPIA section(32) has a plurality of IWF(IWF0,IWF1,IWF2,IWF3) connected to the FPIA(32) respectively.
