Preparing a stream substantially purified w.r.t. at least one of the impurities O2 and CO, in which a stream to be purified, comprising at least 90 mol. % N2, He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe or a mixt. of these, comprises: (a) passing the stream to be purified through at least one porous metal oxide adsorbent, the stream having a temp. of below -40 degrees C; and (b) recovering a stream substantially purified w.r.t. at least one of the impurities O2 and CO, the process in which the stream is comprised of liq. N2 being excluded. Also claimed is an appts. for carrying out the process.
