A method of image analysis for the classification, indexing and searching of images includes forming a plurality of primitive binary images, each representing the presence or absence of a respective palette feature for each pixel of the image, analysing geometric properties of each of the primitive binary images to from a one dimensional array, and combining the arrays to form an image content table for the image.
