A carrier material (3) for a polyurethane (PU) foam is impermeable to the reactive foam mixture (15) when the mixture is fed onto the carrier. When the mixture is fed into the hollow profile, the carrier becomes permeable to the foam mixture, before the viscosity starts to rise as the mixture reacts. An Independent claim is made for a process for producing a hollow profile filled with foam in which a reactive foam fluid mixture (15) is applied onto a carrier material (3) with delayed permeability as the latter is drawn into a profile at uniform speed.
