PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a working method capable of providing a smooth surface free from small projection and having no fear of peeling the coat layer of a glossy paper or the like. SOLUTION: This method of manufacturing a toothed roller comprises the step of forming a mask 13 corrosion resistant to etching solution on the first surface 5 of a metal plate 9 for forming a toothed roller so as to leave a non- mask area 11 near the end of the metal plate and also forming the same mask 13 on the whole surface of the second surface 7 of the metal plate 9, the step of carrying the etching solution from the direction substantially vertical to the first surface 5 to corroding the metal plate 9 of the non-mask area 11, the step of removing the mask 13 after forming the non-mask area 11 into a one-side curved tapered shaper 20 by the corrosion by the etching solution, and the step of polishing and removing a small projection 29 formed on the edge part 27 of the one-side curved tapered shape 20.
