PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sublimation type thermal transfer ribbon enabling formation of a dye image of good quality even by recording in a large number of times or recording different in speed. SOLUTION: In a sublimation type thermal transfer ribbon having a constitution wherein an ink layer (dye supply layer) made to contain particulate dye and the uppermost layer (dye diffusion layer) are laminated in this sequence on a base, a change rate ΔOD of the optical density (OD) of a print image per 1 μm at the time of changing the film thickness of the uppermost layer is made to be 0.3<=ΔOD<=0.6.
