PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an acrylonitrile-based resin by which the water content of the resin and COD in a drain when carried out polymerization can be reduced without deteriorating dyeability. SOLUTION: Acrylonitrile and at least one kind of a vinyl-based monomer in an amount of 55-1 pts.wt. based on 45-99 pts.wt. of the acrylonitrile are polymerized by using water as a medium in the presence of a dispersing agent and an initiator and then sulfonated. The vinyl-based monomer is preferably a mixture composed of at least one kind of a vinyl halide-based monomer selected from the group consisting of vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, vinyl bromide and vinylidene fluoride and other vinyl-based monomers capable of being copolymerized therewith, if necessary.
