PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image recorder in which highly accurate calibration can be carried out while reducing error due to uneven density. SOLUTION: A scanner section 101 reads out the image data of a mounted color pattern and delivers it to the data operating section at an image processing section 102 (Step 203). The data operating section at the image processing section 102 determines the average value of 16 uniform patterns, i.e., the same data pattern of read out color pattern image data, and then determines the difference between the average value and each of the 16 uniform patterns (Step 204). The maximum difference is then compared with a specified value (Step 205). If the maximum difference is larger, an abnormality is notified to a control section 104. The control section 104 designates the data operating section at the image processing section 102 to interrupt calibration processing.
