PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain both an inexpensive hydrocarbon solvent comprising 1- phenyl-1-(isopropylphenyl)ethane excellent in dissolving performances for dyes and color developing rate, etc., without problems even in aspects of a malodor and a pressure-sensitive copying material using the same hydrocarbon solvent. SOLUTION: This hydrocarbon solvent comprises a fraction obtained by reacting styrene with cumene in the presence of an acidic catalyst and having >=85 wt.% content of the 1-phenyl-1-(p-isopropylphenyl)ethane and <=5 wt.% total content of styrene dimers. The weight ratio of 1,3-diphenylbutene to 1- methyl-3-phenylindane in the styrene dimers is <=0.02. The pressure-sensitive copying material uses the above hydrocarbon solvent. |
