PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject implement intended for working a glass rod in high yield without running eccentric nor elliptic when a porous glass preform is to be produced by working an initial glass rod or a clear glass rod made by sintering such a preform is to be subjected to draw working. SOLUTION: This implement 1 which is intended for a glass rod 2 with the hold position on its end representing a larger diameter portion 10 of conical shape, comprises a body 7 having a recess-tapered space 8 identical in angle with the conical shape around the rotating shaft and a clamp 12 securing the body 7 through suppressing the larger diameter portion 10 of a glass rod 2 engaged on the recess-tapered space 8.
