PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying niobium by separating the niobium from other impure metals, by which the highly pure niobium can simply be obtained at a low cost, and to provide a method for obtaining highly pure niobium oxide. SOLUTION: This method for purifying niobium comprises a process for extracting an aqueous hydrofluoric acid solution containing niobium and other metals except the niobium as ions with an organic solvent, and a process for preparing an aqueous solution containing the extracted niobium in a concentration of <=60 g/L (converted into niobium pentaoxide) and then allowing the aqueous solution to flow through an anion exchange resin layer.
