PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the knitting needle and knit fabric abnormality detector which stops the knitting machine, when a probe is brought into a conductive knitting needle, does not stop the knitting machine, when the probe is brought into a nonconductive knit fabric or the like, and detects and stops the knitting machine, when the probe reaches a preliminarily determined position in a state brought into the nonconductive knitting needle. SOLUTION: A contact swinging member (90) can be swung in the first swinging rangeαor in the second swinging rangeβin the same direction as the flow direction of a knitting needle. When the contact swinging member is brought into a conductive detecting article in the first swinging rangeα, the contact swinging member instantaneously electrically conducts to the conductive detecting article at the starting and position (A) of the first swinging rangeαto stop the knitting machine. But, when the free end of the contact swinging member is brought into contact with a non-conductive detecting article in the rangeα, the contact swinging member does not electrically conduct to the nonconductive detecting article. When the contact swinging member reaches the starting end position (B) of the second swinging rangeβin a state that the free end of the contact swinging member is brought into contact with a non-conductive detecting article, the contact swinging member instantaneously electrically conducts to stop the knitting machine.
