STEEL MEMBER HAVING HIGH FACIAL PRESSURE REDUCING FUNCTION AND EXCELLENT IN WEAR RESISTANCE, AND ITS PRODUCING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a steel member capable of exhibiting excellent wear resistance even though extremely high facial pressure is caused at the time of being operated cooperatively with the other member. SOLUTION: This member is provided with a steel base material 1 having a surface hardened layer 2 and a facial pressure reducing layer 3 of soft metal such an Sn and an Sn-Cu alloy formed on the surface hardened layer 2 and whose hardness is lower than that of the surface by >=150 Hv. The facial pressure reducing layer 3 increases the contact area by being plastically deformed under locally caused high facial pressure in the case the member made of steel works cooperatively with the other member to reduce the facial pressure. Thus, local wear and damages are not generated on the surface hardened layer 2, and its wear resistance can effectively be exhibited. A space between the surface hardened layer 2 and the facial pressure reducing layer 3 may be provided with an intermediate layer for improving the adhesion between both layers. By forming the facial pressure reducing layer 3 and the intermediate layer 4 at <=250 deg.C, the thermal softening of the surface hardened layer 2 can be suppressed.
