PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an ultrafine particle-supporting material capable of efficiently adsorbing unstabilized ultrafine particles on the surfaces of inorganic oxide fine particles without aggregating or precipitating the ultrafine particles by acidifying the environment of a solution and increasing the amount of the adsorbed ultrafine particles. SOLUTION: Ultrafine particles 4 of a metal and/or its oxide protected with a polyethylene oxide having NH2 group at the molecular terminal are dispersed in a solution 6 and inorganic oxide fine particles 10 are then dipped in the solution 6 to set the pH at <=4. Thereby, the ultrafine particles 4 protected with the polyethylene oxide molecules 9 are adsorbed on the surfaces of the inorganic oxide fine particles 10. The resultant inorganic oxide fine particles 12 adsorbing the ultrafine particles 4 thereon are further baked to support the ultrafine particles 4 on the inorganic oxide fine particles 10. The metal used is at least one kind selected from copper, gold, silver, platinum, palladium, iron, nickel, cobalt, tin, zinc, cerium, yttrium, etc., and especially preferably a noble metal such as the gold, silver or palladium. The inorganic oxide fine particles 10 are at least one kind selected from titanium oxide, iron oxide, nickel oxide, cobalt oxide, tin oxide and zinc oxide.
