PURPOSE: A method for preventing an RPM of an engine from being increased is provided to prevent a malfunction of an ECU and to prevent the RPM of the engine from being abnormally increased by adding new condition whenever the angle of a throttle is changed. CONSTITUTION: When an angle of a throttle of an engine is suddenly increased, an ECU determines whether a throttle position sensor is erroneously operated. If the throttle position sensor is erroneously operated, an emergency map control is carried out by converting the ECU into an emergency map mode. If the throttle position sensor is normally operated, it is determined whether an amount of air in a present engine condition satisfies the first condition. If the first condition is satisfied, the ECU controls the engine based on a study value of the throttle position sensor without compensating for the amount of air. If the first condition is not satisfied, a dash port is operated to compensate for the amount of air, so that the RPM of the engine is varied corresponding to the amount of air to be compensated.
