PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the shape of manganese oxide useful as a functional material such as an anode material for lithium ion secondary batteries, a lithium ion-separating material, and the like, whereby the control of the shape makes it possible to expect the improvement of the functionality and the improvement of handleability for molding treatments and so on. SOLUTION: Spinel type lithium manganese oxide holding the shape of a precursor. The method for efficiently producing the Spinel type lithium manganese oxide comprises thermally treating a manganese compound having a specific shape in the presence of an oxidizing lithium salt flux having a low melting point, thereby reacting the manganese compound in the flux.
