PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an ultrafine particle-supporting material capable of efficiently adsorbing unstabilized ultrafine particles on the surfaces of inorganic oxide fine particles without aggregating or precipitating the ultrafine particles by acidifying the environment of a solution and increasing the amount of the adsorbed ultrafine particles. SOLUTION: Metal ultrafine particles 7 protected with polyethyleneimine molecules having >=1,200 number-average molecular weight are dispersed in a solvent 3 and inorganic oxide fine particles 10 are then dipped in the resultant dispersion 6 of the metal ultrafine particles 7 to set the pH at <=4. Thereby, the metal ultrafine particles 7 protected with the polyethyleneimine are adsorbed on the surfaces of the inorganic oxide fine particles 10. The resultant inorganic oxide fine particles 12 adsorbing the metal ultrafine particles 7 are then baked to produce the metal ultrafine particle 7-supporting material 17 supporting the metal ultrafine particles 7 on the inorganic oxide fine particles 10. The polyethyleneimine has a structure of H-(NHCH2CH2)n-NH2 or (NHCH2CH2)x[N(CH2CH2NH2)CH2CH2]y having >=1,200 number-average molecular weight. The inorganic oxide fine particles 10 are at least one kind selected from titanium oxide, iron oxide, nickel oxide, cobalt oxide, tin oxide and zinc oxide.
