PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat generator wherein a viscous heat generating compsn. having flowability is transferred to a packaging material and a volatile liquid and a part of water are evaporated to make the heat generating compsn porous, and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: A heat generator is produced by a method wherein a heat generating compsn. 2 containing a heat generating substance, a water absorbable polymer and/or a thickener, a carbon component and/or metal chloride, water and a volatile liquid is laminated to and sealed in a sheetlike packaging material in a state made porous by the evaporation of the volatil liquid. A part of the packaging material 1 has air permeability.
