PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a petroleum resin having decreased odor compared with conventional petroleum resin and excellent processability and performance especially for asphalt paving and tackifier. SOLUTION: The objective petroleum resin has a softening point of 50-200 deg.C measured in conformity to JIS K-2207 (1991), a weight-average molecular weight of 500-5,000 measured by gel-permeation chromatography using polystyrene as the standard substance and a weight loss of <=3% measured by putting 5.0 g of the resin in a flat bottom vessel having an inner diameter of 5 cm and melting by heating at 250 deg.C for 1 hr.
