POLYVINYL ALCOHOL-BASED WATER-CONTAINING GEL, ITS PRODUCTION AND DRAINAGE TREATING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-based water-containing gel excellent in capturing property for microorganisms and living property of them and also excellent in endurance such as abrasion resistance and mechanical strength, and provide its method of production and a waste water treating device. SOLUTION: This PVA-based water-containing gel is made to have a structure constituted of an outer layer having many fine holes having a crevasse like state, and an inner layer having a compact three dimensional network structure. Such a water-containing gel is produced by adding a substance capable of making a phase separation of a polymer solution to a polymer solution containing a vinyl alcohol-based polymer having >=3,000 degree of polymerization and a polymer capable of forming a gel by making a contact with a cation to prepare a phase separated solution, bringing the phase separated solution with a cation-containing liquid to solidify at least the surface of the polymer of the phase separated liquid, then forming the gel by bringing the solidified material in contact with a coagulating liquid having a coagulating function to the vinyl alcohol-based polymer and performing an acetal forming treatment. Such gel is preferably used for a waste water treating device.
