摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption by reducing the number of rotations of a magnetic disk step by step for every proper standby time in which recoding or reproducing is not performed from finish of recording or reproducing to the next recording or reproducing. SOLUTION: A magnetic head slider is floated by balance of positive pressure, negative pressure, and pushing pressure of a suspension. Considering depth, area, shape of a groove part of a slider, it is set so that, for example, floating quantity becomes the maximum with rotation speed of 2,500 rpm being lower than the number of rotations of the magnetic disk of 4,200 rpm at the time of recording/reproducing. When a standby time of 6 sec elapses after finish of recording or reproducing, the number of rotations of the magnetic disk is reduced to 4,000 rpm from 4,200 rpm. Further, in the case of a standby time of 30 sec, the number of rotations is reduced to 3,500 rpm. Further in the case of a standby time of 60 sec, the number of rotations is reduced to 3,000 rpm. Finally, in the case of standby time of 600 sec, the number of rotations is reduced to 2,500 rpm at which floating quantity becomes the maximum from 3,000 rpm.
