PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lessen thermal stresses by making smooth the temperature gradient on an insulating ring at the time friction pressure contacting the ring with the vessel flanges. SOLUTION: With glass soldering, an insulating ring 28 is attached to the open end of a solid electrolyte tube 14 constituting a bulkhead between a positive electrode vessel 10 to accommodate sulfur 26 and a negative electrode vessel 28 to accommodate sodium 24, and a stepped or tapered portion is formed at the forefront of a negative electrode vessel flange 30 and a positive electrode vessel flange 32 both formed in a ring shape to serve for friction pressure contacting these flanges 30 and 32 to the oversurface of the ring 28, and the ring 28 is put in standstill in the condition that its surface is contacted by the stepped or tapered portion, and the flanges 30 and 32 are rotated so that friction is generated in between, and with the frictional heat generated, the flanges 30 and 32 and the ring 28 are melted, and then the flanges 30 and 32 are pressed to the ring 28 so that pressure contacting is accomplished.
