PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method capable of forming a decorative character image having proper and easily recognizable color arrangements in a character part and a decorative part by arranging the set colors of character color and decorative color in the character part and the decorative part to form the decorative character image. SOLUTION: In a tape printer, a target character in a character line or the range thereof is designated to set the character size or the kind of character decoration (S112), in addition to a simple character input, or various colors are designated and set as the color of each part (each character or the target range of the character line) of the character line (S113). Accordingly, in the formation of a decorative character image in which a decorative character consisting of an optional character subjected to an optional character decoration is arranged on an optional background, the decorative character image having proper and easily recognizable color arrangements in the character part and the decorative part can be formed even if the set of one or both of the character color to the character part and the decorative color to the decoration part is omitted.
